The map
The digital map of all participating addresses goes live about a week before the event. Pull it up on your phone Saturday morning — pin Avondale Park (3516 W School Street) as your starting point and event-day info hub. The map will be the same one you used to plan, just live and zoomable.
Getting here
-
Don't drive into the neighborhood.
The sale spans about 30 blocks and parking is residential. Pedestrian traffic will be heavy. If you drive, park on a major street outside the boundary (Pulaski, Belmont, Diversey) and walk in.
-
Take the Blue Line.
The Belmont stop puts you right at the southeast corner of the sale area. From there it's a 5-minute walk to the heart of the action.
-
Bus options.
The 77 Belmont, 76 Diversey, and 53 Pulaski all run along the boundary streets. Hop off anywhere and walk in.
-
Biking is great.
Side streets are quiet. Bring a lock. Most yards have somewhere to park a bike. Just don't try to haul a couch on it.
What to bring
- Cash, small bills. Many sellers can do Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App, but cash is fastest. Bring fives and singles — nobody wants to make change for a hundred at 10am.
- Bags or a tote. Big ones. A wagon or folding cart if you're serious.
- Comfortable shoes. You will walk more than you think.
- A measuring tape. If you're hunting furniture, this saves you from the "wait, does it fit in my apartment" disaster.
- Phone, charged. For the map, for paying, for snapping the chair you want to think about for ten minutes.
Etiquette
- Haggle gently. Sellers price low already. A polite offer is welcome; a lowball is rude.
- Don't show up at 8am. Sale starts at 10. Sellers are setting up.
- Watch the kids and dogs. Streets get busy. Keep an eye out.
- Take your trash with you. If you crack open a coffee, the cup goes home with you, not in someone's yard.
Event-day info hub
Avondale Park (3516 W School St) is the meet-up spot. Look for the table by the field house. We'll have:
- Food and drink vendors — a small lineup of local vendors set up on or near the park grounds (final list posted closer to the event)
- Restrooms (inside the field house)
- Volunteers who can answer questions
- A lost-and-found
